Types of Programming

thons

We use Hackathon and Mediathon type events with high-school and geographically distributed members to focus on specific issues. They tend toward technical solutions and are intended to provide our post-secondary sponsors an opportunity to engage with potential students. Our focus is on topics in the themes of;

  • Agricultural Development
  • Entrepreneurship and Business
  • Energy Efficiency and Community Power
  • IT/IM, Digital and Transmedia
  • Strategic Intent and Technology Assessment

Unconference

We use unconferences, a participant-driven meeting that is focused on collaborative learning, networking and community building. It is based on the Foo Camp model that spawned the more public Bar Camp approach. Our membership and invited guests are given priority access to our unconferences.

At the beginning of the event any participant can initiate a discussion and claim time and space. In cases where participants are asking questions on a particular topic panels or guest speakers may be asked to inform the community.

Explorer

We use the Explorer series which are one to five year applied research projects that are used to support our membership and sponsoring organizations. The projects where practical are undertaken with post-secondary collaboration partners in one of five themes.

  • Agricultural Development
  • Entrepreneurship and Business
  • Energy Efficiency and Community Power
  • IT/IM, Digital and Transmedia
  • Strategic Intent and Technology Assessment
